Handcrafted design

Jewellery has always been part of human history — from ancient Greece and Rome to the Egyptian pantheon and the powerful symbolism of Norse cultures. Throughout history, jewellery has carried meaning: as an expression of spirituality, hierarchy, power and beauty. It has told the story of who we are and what we believe in.

At Maanesten, it is precisely these stories, traditions and ancient symbols that are woven into our creative process. Our designers and goldsmiths draw inspiration from mythology, the forms of nature and the wisdom of history when they create new collections that connect the poetry of the past with the aesthetics of the present.

It all starts with a theme — perhaps ‘Goddesses of the Night’ — from which we develop visual mood boards, sketches and ideas. From there, the design process unfolds, both by hand, digitally and in the workshop. Some shapes emerge as dreamy, abstract sketches, others as detailed jewellery models, created in close collaboration between our design team and goldsmiths in Copenhagen. Once the final designs are in place, they are sent to our workshop in India, where experienced goldsmiths and craftsmen take over and transform ideas into reality. This is where the finished piece of jewellery is created — crafted by hands that understand the essence of the material and the poetry of form.

From initial inspiration to final finish, each piece of jewellery is a journey through time, imagination and form. A little story you can carry with you.

Artist at work

Our visual merchandisers are true artists when they create our imaginative dream environments that help tell the story and showcase our collections. It is a big task to deliver handmade displays to all our stores and retailers, but for us it is very important that we reuse the same materials again and again, just in a new way.
